On this day in 1980, former award winning Investigator Dumisani Muleya was born. In 2002, he won an award for exposing the state’s role in the farm invasion of 2000. In 2005 he won the Speakers Abbort award and in the following year the Cables Network African Journalist of the year.
On this day in 2004, Zimbabwean Journalists Dumisani Muleya, Vincent Kahiya and Iden Wetherell were arrested. The three were charged with publishing an article that was insulting the late former President Robert Gabriel Mugabe together with his Government. There were charged for reporting that the late former President Robert Mugabe took a plane that belonged to the national carrier Air Zimbabwe for his holidays in Asia, resulting in loss of earnings to the public company of three billion Zimbabwe dollars.
On this day in 2013, former award winning Journalist Dumisani Muleya was arrested. Muleya was charged under section 31 of the Criminal Law- the Codification and Reform Act for publishing and communicating false statements against Zimbabwe State. This was not the first time being arrested as he was once arrested in 2004 for publishing an article that was insulting the late former President Robert Gabriel Mugabe together with his Government.
