On this day in 1976, Zimbabwean songwriter, singer and skilled mbira (thumb piano) player Chioniso Maraire was born in Olympia, USA. Maraire moved back to Zimbabwe with her parents during her high school years. She started playing mbira at an early age learning from her father David Maraire and and her music career in the 1990s. She died in 2013 at the age of 37.
