On this day in 1957, Zimbabwean novelist, film maker and playwright, Tsitsi Dangarembga was born in Mutoko, Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). In September 2020, Dangarembga was announced as the University of East Anglia’s inaugural International Chair of Creative Writing, from 2021 to 2022. Her thematic concerns are mostly centered on human folly, patriachal and post colonial society patterning Zimbabwe. More important still, a certain area of her scholarly interest is in the novel Nervous Conditions in which Dangarembga stresses the oppression of Rhodesian (now Zimbabwe) women by the economic and cultural jurisdiction.
