On this day in 1946, Zimbabwean Human Rights advocate Pius Ncube was born in Filabusi. On the 11th of September 2007, he resigned as the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Bulawayo. On 23 October 2003, he received human Right Award for speaking against the late former President of Zimbabwe Robert Gabriel Mugabe‘s tyranny government. In doing so, he acted as the voice for the voiceless. After the march in 2005, Ncube repeated his call for a peaceful rebellion saying that he was to pray that Mugabe will by all means step down from power. In early 2005, minister Nathan Shamuyarira reffered Ncube as a mad and inveterate liar.

On this day in 1979, the Lancaster House Agreement was signed in London. The agreement guaranteed freedom of association and the right to form trade unions. The late former President of Zimbabwe, Robert Gabriel Mugabe on this day emphasised the need for truce between different political parties.

On this day in 1980, the late Rhodesian nationalist Robert Gabriel Mugabe returned to Rhodesia after being exiled for five years. At the grounds in the Highfield township of Salisbury, crowds rejoiced as Mugabe pointed out that there would be no more injustice based on race and colour.

On this day in 1987, the House of Assembly elected Robert Mugabe as executive president of Zimbabwe. Robert Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo signed the Unity Accord, which provided for the merge of ZANU and ZAPU into ZANU-PF on the same day. This was a turning point in Zimbabwe’s post-independence history as it marked the forging of an alliance between the countries major political players. The signing of the document ended the so called nationwide conflict that existed since 1963 between ZANU and ZAPU.

On this day in 1989, the late Robert Gabriel Mugabe was nominated as sole candidate for the office. He was inaugurated as the country’s first Executive President of Zimbabwe.

On this day in 1992, the late, Amai Sally Mugabe, late President Mugabe’s first wife died from kidney failure at the age of 60. In 1962, she demonstrated in mobilising African Women (AW) in challenging the Rhodesian (now Zimbabwe) constitution, she was charged with sedition and was sentenced to five years imprisonment.

On this day in 2004, retired army commander and brigadier Ambrose Mutinhiri was appointed the Minister of Youth Development, Gender and Employment Creation by his excellency president Robert Gabriel Mugabe (late). He retired soon after the resignation of Mugabe in 2017.

On this day in 2004, Zimbabwean Journalists Dumisani Muleya, Vincent Kahiya and Iden Wetherell were arrested. The three were charged with publishing an article that was insulting the late former President Robert Gabriel Mugabe together with his Government. There were charged for reporting that the late former President Robert Mugabe took a plane that belonged to the national carrier Air Zimbabwe for his holidays in Asia, resulting in loss of earnings to the public company of three billion Zimbabwe dollars.

On this day in 2005, former President Robert Gabriel Mugabe (late) signed into law the Zimbabwe Election Commission Bill and Electoral Bill # 5. SADC officials were pleased and it laurelled Zimbabwe for being ‘the first country to comply with the regional election’.

On this day in 2007, Former Rhodesian Prime Minister, Ian Smith died. Smith served as PM from 1964-1979 and at that time he enforced some real white supremacy in the country. He remained vocal in opposition to Mugabe even after the parliamentary seats reserved for whites were abolished in 1987. He and Mugabe were known for having conficts. At some point in March 2002, Smith at the age of 82 queued with the support of a walking stick to vote against Mugabe for presidential elections.

On this day in 2008, former President of Zimbabwe Robert Gabriel Mugabe (late) announced that joint presidential and parliamentary elections would go ahead on March 29.

On this day in 2008, in Harare, Zimbabwean Politician, Simba Makoni announced he was going to be a Presidential candidate for the 2008 Presidential election. He was to challenge the former President of Zimbabwe, Robert Gabriel Mugabe (late) for him to become the next President of Zimbabwe.

On this day in 2008, ZEC announced poll results after a month’s delay. Results stated that, the late former President of MDC Morgan Tsvangirai had won 47.9% whereas the late former President of Zimbabwe Robert Gabriel Mugabe with 43.2%. Both political parties failed to reach 50 plus votes which resulted in the setting up for new dates to vote again.

On this day in 2008, human Right Lawyer Harrison Nkomo was arrested for defending independent journalist Frank Chikowore. He was kept for two days and was given charges for insulting the late former President of Zimbabwe, Robert Gabriel Mugabe.

On this day in 2008, the late Robert Gabriel Mugabe then President of Zimbabwe agreed to hand over day to day control of the government and much of his power in a historical deal with his opponent the late Morgan Tsvangirai. The deal was very crucial to end the famous 2008 political crisis that Zimbabwe was in following the disputed 2008 general elections.

On this day in 2013, Former President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe announced a new cabinet following his victory of the July 2013 general elections. The number of ministers was reduced by 7 to 26 from the previous cabinet. The cabinet marked the end of the coalition government which had been formed in 2008.

On this day in 2014, the late former President of Zimbabwe Robert Gabriel Mugabe blamed Mujuru for corruption and plotting to kill him. Misheck Sibanda asserted that RG Mugabe exercised his authority by releasing the honourable Joice Mujuru with immediate effect. Mrs Mujuru responded with denying the claim that was pondered to her by saying that her loyalty to Mr Mugabe was ‘unquestionable and ‘repugnant’ to suggest she was against Mugabe. She blames the Zimbabwe State media for publishing malevolent untruths and destruction of ZANU-PF.

On this day in 2015, the former President of Zimbabwe Robert Gabriel Mugabe (late) was granted the position to chair African Union (AU).

On this day in 2017, in Harare, a ceremony was held for the purpose of renaming Harare International Airport after its late president, Robert Gabriel Mugabe. Apparently the airport was inducted by Mugabe in April 2001. The Civil Aviation Authority pointed out that, Mugabe as one of Zimbabwe’s founding fathers so it was a fair deal to rename Harare International Airport to Robert Mugabe International Airport.

On this day in 2017, the late former Zimbabwean President Robert Gabriel Mugabe was placed under house arrest after days of negotiations and impeachment proceedings.

On this day in 2017, the late former President of Zimbabwe, Robert Gabriel Mugabe resigned from power after yielding to political and military coercion. Mugabe had been serving as the president of the Republic of Zimbabwe since 1987.

On this day in 2019, former president of Zimbabwe Robert Gabriel Mugabe died in Singapore after a long battle with cancer. Mugabe had been suffering from prostate cancer for such a long time. His body had become frail and weary, making the fight against cancer more unassailable.

On this day in 2021, the government of Zimbabwe announced the death of Zimbabwe foreign minister Sibusiso Moyo who was succumbed to Covid-19. Moyo was the army general who gained his superiority in 2017 when he played great part by announcing the military take over when Robert Gabriel Mugabe (late) resigned from office. Hence, His Excellence President Mnangagwa describes him as a friend and a ‘true hero’.
