On this day in 1976, Mozambique closed its border with Rhodesia and cut all its rail and communication links. Mozambique also took over all Rhodesian owned property.
On this day in 2019, heavy rains and strong winds fell across the eastern parts of Zimbabwe especially Chimanimani as cyclone Idai meandered through the country’s border with Mozambique. The cyclone caused flooding, landslides and rockfalls leading to the destruction of infrastructure, property, crops as well as loss of human and animal lives.
