Queen Victoria grants the British South African Company a Royal Charter.

On this day in 1889, Queen Victoria granted the British South Africa Company a Royal Charter. The company received a Royal Charter modeled on the that of British East India Company. The directors were the 2nd Duke of Abercorn, Cecil John Rhodes and Alfred Beit.
